You don't need a fancy setup to start. Here's what I actually use, and what I'd skip.
What I use
My phone. Honestly, that's most of it. The camera on a modern phone is more than good enough for TikTok. I focus on lighting and audio instead.
A ring light. Cheap, cheerful, and it makes a massive difference. Good lighting hides a multitude of sins.
A small tripod. For when I need to film without holding the phone. Worth every penny.
A clip-on microphone. If there's one upgrade I'd recommend, it's audio. People will forgive bad video. They won't forgive bad sound.
What I'd skip
Expensive cameras. Unless you're doing YouTube long-form, you don't need one. Save the money.
Editing software subscriptions. CapCut is free and does everything I need. I'd only upgrade if you're doing serious post-production.
Elaborate backdrops. A clean, well-lit corner of your room is fine. Don't overthink it.
The best equipment is whatever lets you film quickly and consistently. Don't let gear get in the way of making content.
